So, some of my followers said 3 of swords, but others said the Tower, and also 8 of cups.
So, my choice was the 3 of swords.
The 3 of Swords represents deep emotional pain, often due to heartbreak, betrayal, or loss. It reflects the intense sorrow and the feeling of a heart being pierced by a painful truth, just like in the story where the character discovers a shattering truth and feels heartbroken and betrayed. This card is all about the raw, sharp emotional pain that comes from personal wounds, particularly in relationships. It focuses on the internal, emotional experience of the person involved.
Why this is not the Tower?
Don’t get me wrong – I totally see why you’ve chosen it – it is also about dramatic, life-altering change, but it’s more focused on the collapse of structures, usually external ones (of course that can have an internal impact), that are built on false or shaky foundations. While the Tower does relate to upheaval and chaos, it represents an explosive, sudden event that shakes a person to their core (and yes, it is sudden in the story, and yes, it shattered her world), but the Tower often leads to to a complete transformation, or at least it should… If we think of the Tower in this context, it could fit the idea of a shocking, life-changing revelation (such as betrayal or loss), but it’s more about an external destruction or a major upheaval in one’s life rather than focusing on the internal, emotional impact. The Tower suggests a more radical, shocking shift that leads to transformation, while the 3 of Swords stays focused on the emotional aftermath… “Heartbroken and betrayed, she found herself standing alone, feeling the weight of the words she never thought she’d hear.”
And why it is not the 8 of Cups?
The 8 of Cups signifies walking away or leaving behind something emotionally unfulfilling, often after a period of emotional disappointment. It’s about choosing to leave something behind and seek something more meaningful. While the 8 of Cups might resonate with the feeling of being disappointed and walking away, it is more about the decision to leave rather than the pain of staying or being stuck in a difficult emotional situation. In this case, the 3 of Swords reflects the intense heartbreak and sorrow from the discovery of betrayal, while the 8 of Cups suggests more of an action of leaving or moving away, which doesn’t quite capture the feeling of emotional devastation in the moment of the betrayal.
