How to Calculate The Card of The Day

The Card of The Day is a simple calculator that on a given day tells you what Tarot card is the Card of The Day. As a matter of fact, every single day has at least 2 Cards of the Day and some days even have 3. Of course, you can calculate the Card of The Day yourself and by knowing this basic formula you can do it whenever and wherever you want. Just some first grade math and a pinch of Tarot knowledge and you have a Card of the Day. Here’s the basic formula that will help you calculate the Card of The Day:

Day of the Month (from 1 to 31) + Month (from 1 to 12) + 20 + Two-digit Number for the Year (for example 23 because now we are in 2023).

For example, today is March 19th 2023, and the first Card of the Day is Justice and the second The High Priestess. So, how did we calculate the Card of The Day?

19 + 3 + 20 + 23 = 65 because there is no Major Arcana Card with such number (0-21), we continue breaking 65 into:

6 + 5 = 11 Aha! 11 is the range of Major Arcana numbers. 11 is Justice!

And we can again break two-digit number 11 into:

1 + 1 = 2 Which is The High Priestess as the second Card of the Day.

Every day single day will have two Cards of the day, and they come in the following pairs:

10 reduces to 1 (1+0) = Wheel of Fortune / Magician
11 reduces to 2 (1+1) = Justice / High Priestess
12 reduces to 3 (1+2) = Hanged Man / Empress
13 reduces to 4 (1+3) = Death / Emperor
14 reduces to 5 (1+4) = Temperance / Hierophant
15 reduces to 6 (1+5) = Devil / Lovers
16 reduces to 7 (1+6) = Tower / Chariot
17 reduces to 8 (1+7) = Star / Strength
18 reduces to 9 (1+8) = Moon / Hermit
19 reduces to 10 (1+9) and to 1 (1+0) = Sun / Wheel of Fortune / Magician

So, there is one exception to the rule above. If the sum of the Card of the day is 19, that specific day will have three Cards of the Day: the Sun (19), the Wheel of Fortune (10) and the Magician (1).

20 reduces to 2 (2+0) = Judgement / High Priestess
21 reduces to 3 (2+1) = World / Empress

You’ve probably noticed there’s no Fool in the pairs written above. This is because Fool is either unnumbered or belongs to number 0. Nevertheless, we believe that just the right amount of the Fool should be in every single day.
